The Role: Backend Engineer

As a Backend Engineer at Moniepoint, you’ll play a critical role in designing, building, and maintaining our scalable and secure backend systems. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-impact features and ensure performance, reliability, and scalability in a fast-paced environment.

We’re looking for someone who is deeply technical, thrives in a remote-first culture, and is passionate about building systems that matter.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain robust backend services and APIs that power Moniepoint’s core products
Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code following best practices
Collaborate with product managers, frontend engineers, DevOps, and other stakeholders to deliver new features and improvements
Optimize systems for performance, scalability, security, and reliability
Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and architectural decisions
Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and automated testing strategies
Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends

Requirements

3+ years of experience building scalable backend applications
Strong proficiency in at least one backend language (Go, Node.js, Python, Java, or similar)
Solid understanding of relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB)
Experience designing RESTful APIs and microservices architecture
Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure
Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD tools
Ability to work independently in a remote environment
Strong problem-solving skills and a collaborative mindset
Experience with fintech, payments, or financial systems is a plus

Nice to Have

Prior experience in a fast-growing startup or high-scale environment
Understanding of event-driven architecture and message brokers (Kafka, RabbitMQ, etc.)
Exposure to DevOps practices and infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Ansible, etc.)
